Not Herne Bay, surely?

I was rehearsing a song out of The Merry Wives of Windsor the other night with our two tenors, M. and J-C. (not featured in the photo above). The words are:

Fie on sinful fantasy!
Fie on lust and luxury!
Lust is but a bloody fire
Kindled with unchaste desire
Fed in heart: whose flames aspire,
As thoughts do blow them, higher and higher.
Pinch him, fairies, mutually;
Pinch for his villainy;
Pinch him, and burn him, and turn him about,
Till candles and starlight and moonshine be out.

The hordes of Merry Wives Of Windsor (or of Verdi's Falstaff) buffs that come here daily will recognise this as the song the children of Windsor have been taught to sing while, dressed as fairies, they torment the lewd lecher Sir John Falstaff, who has been promised a midnight forest tryst by one of the women he fancies, on condition that he disguise himself as local bogeyman Herne the Hunter by wearing horns. It turns out to be a honey-trap, of course, but Falstaff suspects nothing.

We will be singing this in Scotland in early May. The long wake of life throws up some bizarre eddies.

It's the coin operated laundry that makes me wonder if this is a staged event and not real?

You may well be right, Rosie. That's sign's a dead giveaway. You'd think they would know better. Clearly we're in France somewhere, just outside Coin Opéra (Opera Corner), where they're putting on Ted La Undry, an opera about mermen, of which I believe there is no lack in your part of the world.

He did indeed, Vicus, and I'm glad to see that even then he had his acolytes beside him. Could that be you in the check short-sleeved shirt pointedly walking in the opposite direction?

EI: Mmmmmmm yes, but maybe not in a trap...

Dave: So you think Vicus has a past too?

I'm green with envy, TS, green with envy.

As soon as I typed 'bizarre eddies' I thought who've I opened the door to? Will it be Rosie? Will it be the Znowflake? Will it be Cynthia? Will it be Anon, who hasn't been seen round here for a while? Geoff? Spadoman?

I never thought it might be you, Rog.

I visited Herne Bay once. I was disappointed.

Z: It wasn't a honey-trap, I hope?
